The Blue Angels: Amazon Documentary Dives Into the Working of Flight Demonstration Squadron

The Blue Angels is an upcoming documentary that offers a behind-the-scenes look into the renowned Flight Demonstration Squadron. Backed by Amazon Studios, the new aviation documentary chronicles the journey of the titular squadron as they prepare to show their skills for an entire show season. Additionally, viewers will get an idea of how aviators are selected for the eight-month show season. The documentary will be available for streaming on Prime Video on May 23, 2024.

According to Amazon, The Blue Angels will detail the rigorous path to becoming a Blue Angel pilot. The 94-minute film promises to give viewers a glimpse inside the cockpit and take them on a journey filled with breathtaking visuals. Moreover, the documentary would also focus on the strenuous training regimen of the Blue Pilots.

For the uninitiated, the Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Chester Nimitz gave the order to establish the Blue Angels in 1946. Officially known as the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the group is widely recognized for its extraordinary flight demonstrations.

The high-flying trailer opens with an inspiring quote from one of the pilots. The pilot says, “The first time you take off, you’ve got to push the ‘I believe’ button.” As the trailer moves forward, it features captivating maneuvers by the newest team members. Moreover, viewers get to hear officers about their journey with the squad and the challenges they face. The film serves as a tribute to the remarkable men and women of the Navy and Marine Corps who had the honor of serving the impeccable Blue Angels squadron.

What is the release date of The Blue Angels?

While Amazon will release the documentary on Prime Video, the production giant has partnered with IMAX to bring The Blue Angels to theaters. Hence, the film will be released in IMAX theaters for one week on May 17, 2023, and then make its debut on Prime Video on May 23.

Directed by Paul Crowder, The Blue Angels boasts an impressive lineup of notable figures. Renowned filmmaker JJ Abrams and actor Glen Powell are serving as producers on the film. Abrams is famous for helming movies such as Star Trek and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Meanwhile, Powell recently played the role of Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick.
