The Dynasty: New England Patriots: Why Did Tom Brady Leave the NFL Powerhouse?

Apple TV+ recently released the first two episodes of their new docuseries titled The Dynasty: New England Patriots. This project sheds light on the journey of the NFL franchise, the New England Patriots. Once upon a time, the Patriots were struggling to make a dent in the league. However, they gradually became a football dynasty and went on to win six Super Bowls. Three individuals are majorly credited for their unbelievable success: quarterback Tom Brady, head coach Bill Belichick and franchise owner, Robert Kraft.

Tom Brady represented the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2019. However, in 2020, he signed for Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a two-year contract. In the aforementioned documentary, Brady revealed that his reason for leaving the Patriots was due to his relationship with head coach Bill Belichick. The conditions under Belichick apparently became “brutal” and this prompted the player to not re-sign with the franchise.

According to Apple TV+, the synopsis of The Dynasty: New England Patriots reads, “Go inside the franchise’s 20-year journey, from the unique chemistry that fueled six Super Bowl wins to the internal strife that sparked a turf war. Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, Robert Kraft and key players reveal the road to — and cost of — greatness.”

Tom Brady stated that he had no desire to re-sign for the New England Patriots

According to People Magazine, Tom Brady said that even though he and head coach Bill Belichick spent 20 years doing what they loved, he had made up his mind to now re-sign for the New England Patriots.

He stated, “Me and coach Belichick, we did what we loved and competed for 20 years together. But I wasn’t going to sign another contract [in New England] even if I wanted to play until [I was] 50. Based on how things had gone, I wasn’t going to sign up for more of it.”

Belichick finally departed his role as head coach of the Patriots in early 2024. Under his leadership, the franchise appeared in nine Super Bowls, with a record six wins.
