The ID channel is releasing a four-part docuseries titled Let Us Prey: A Ministry of Scandals. The first two episodes will air on ID on Friday, November 24, 2023, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. However, the last two will air on the same channel and time on Saturday, i.e., November 25, 2023.
This docuseries will shed light on some of the atrocities committed by The Independent Fundamentalist Baptist (IFB). According to The Republic, this organization has almost 6000 churches and 8 million members. However, many individuals, especially women, have revealed that it is the breeding ground for evil.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the synopsis of the episodes read, “An investigative reporter uncovers more than 400 abuse claims in IFB churches, leading to a prosecutor cracking open Ruthy’s case from her childhood; Kathy learns her silencing 28 years ago led to the silencing of more victims, and finally speaks up. Ruthy and Kathy face their abusers in court, and Ruthy’s abuser does something shocking and unexpected; Amanda’s parents face more than 100 felony charges for crimes against youth at a boarding school where they forced Amanda to punish other kids.”
What did the Independent Fundamentalist Baptist(IFB) do?
According to HuffPost, the IFB had 412 cases of allegations against them. These allegations varied from assault, rape, child abuse, manipulation, etc. One of the victims of the IFB, Stacey Shiflett, explained how pastors regularly kept a clean slate by sweeping abuse allegations under the rug. She said, “The one that does the abuse is the one that always comes out the other side smelling like a rose and goes down the road to another church, so he can do it again to somebody else.”
Another survivor named Ashley Easter stated that the organization is able to get away with its sinister ways because of its independent nature.
