Derailment was one of the most anticipated C-dramas to come out in the latter half of 2023. The Lin Yi and Liu Hao Cun starrer aired from December 14, 2023, to January 2, 2024. The drama has managed to garner popularity since the first episode because of its unique storyline. It’s an adaptation of a popular novel by the same title, written by Priest.
Jiang Xiao Yuan (Liu Hao Cun) is a rich girl who is pretty content with her life. But soon her whole life turns upside down when she meets with an accident. But as fate will have it, instead of meeting her doom, she gets sent to a parallel world. Here, she is presented with a completely opposite life. She is a loner in a big city who has nothing to her name. She meets a mysterious young man named Qi Lian (Lin Yi) and together they embark on a journey to find the truth about Xiao Yuan’s real identity.
Derailment Ending: What happens at the end?
The drama takes its viewers on a complete roller coaster ride and it seems that it’s set in a virtual reality where Jiang Xiao Yuan can travel back in time and between different dimensions. She is transported to a new dimension where she possesses the same name as her previous world but nothing else is familiar. She gets confused about her identity. When she meets Qi Lian, he seems to know her but she swears to have never seen him before.
Qi Lian mistakes her for his old love interest. Throughout the drama, both Jiang Xiao Yuan and Qi Lian try to find ways for her to get back to her original world. As time passes, romance starts to bloom between them.
Toward the end, it’s revealed that there is no parallel universe. Xiao Yuan has participated in an experiment called the Lighthouse System that altered her memory. Not only that but Qi Lian was also one of the participants. In the end, after facing many setbacks, they get together, and their story gets a happy ending.
