Drifting Home Teaser Previews Netflix’s Coming-of-Age Anime Film

Netflix has dropped a brand new teaser for Drifting Home, Studio Colorido’s newest anime film, which is a coming-of-age story about six children who suddenly find themselves in an apartment drifting along in the middle of the ocean. It will be available for streaming on Friday, September 16.

The video, which you can check out below, highlights the friendship between Kosuke and Natsume, who, despite constantly bickering, care deeply for each other.

Drifting Home features the voice talents of Mutsumi Tamura (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean), Asami Seto (Jujutsu Kaisen), Daiki Yamashita (My Hero Academia), Yumiko Kobayashi (Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World), Inori Minase (The Quintessential Quintuplets), and Kana Hanazawa (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba).

“Kosuke and Natsume have been friends since childhood, but their relationship begins to strain in sixth grade after Kosuke’s grandfather Yasutsugu passes away. One day during their summer vacation, Kosuke and his classmates sneak into an apartment complex that is scheduled to be demolished, and rumored to be haunted,” reads Netflix’s synopsis. “Both Kosuke and Natsume grew up there, so the place holds a lot of memories for them. There, Kosuke stumbles into Natsume and is asked if he knows about the mysterious Noppo. But suddenly, they get caught up in a mysterious phenomenon. When they regain consciousness, they see a vast ocean before them. As the apartment complex drifts in a mysterious sea with Kosuke and the others on board, they band together to try and survive. There are tears and fights, and maybe even reconciliation. Will they be able to return to their previous world? A summer farewell journey begins … ”

Drifting Home is directed by Hiroyasu Ishida from a screenplay written by Hayashi Mori. It hails from Studio Colorido, known for Penguin Highway, which was nominated for Best Animation at the 42nd Japan Academy Film Prize, and A Whisker Away.
