Demon Slayer season 4 episode 2 reveals Giyu’s past with Sabito

Demon Slayer season 4 episode 2, “Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka’s Pain,” continues the conversation between Kagaya’s Kasugai crow and Tamayo. The messenger crow requests Tamayo’s presence at the Ubuyashiki Mansion to help with Kocho’s research. Tamayo accepts the invitation and plans to move to the Demon Slayer Corps with Yushiro.

Then, the focus shifts to Tanjiro following Ubuyashiki’s request to convince Giyu to participate in the Hashira training. Hence, a stubborn Tanjiro stalks Giyu until he finally reveals the reason for not partaking in the training.

The Water Hashira states that he used to train with Sabito under Urokodaki. However, Sabito sacrificed his life to save Giyu and others during the Final Selection, leaving him in utter guilt for the rest of his life. Tanjiro resonates with Giyu’s feelings and shares words of encouragement as Inosuke did with the protagonist when Rengoku died. This motivates Giyu as he remembers how Sabito had asked him to live for his dead sister. Finally, he agrees to participate in the Hashira training.

The episode ends with Kanao and the Insect Hashira Shinobu Kocho talking about the demon who killed Kanae, the latter’s sister. However, the episode ends when Shinobu is about to share details on how to kills the demon.
