Rudeus’ mother, Zenith Greyrat is one of the main characters in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. She was born into a family of nobility in the Holy Milis Kingdom. However, she ran away from her house at 15 to rebel against the aristocratic traditions.
While traveling as an adventurer, Zenith stumbles upon Rudeus’ father, Paul Greyrat. Paul saves her from getting financially scammed multiple times. She falls in love with him and becomes a part of his party called the Fangs of the Black Wolf. Zenith makes Paul promise monogamy before becoming pregnant with Rudeus. They decided to retire and settle in a village named Buena.
The catastrophic Mana Calamity takes place when Rudeus is five years old. This event causes massive mana storms to emerge worldwide and randomly teleport people over unpredictable distances. The incident gravely affects the Greyrat family. Paul gets teleported to a place close to Buena. However, Zenith goes missing, her fate floating on an uncertain plain.
After searching for years, Rudeus gets a lead about his long-lost mother, Zenith. The former Demon Empress Kishirika Kishirisu, using her clairvoyant abilities, informs him that his mother is alive and trapped in the city of Rapan.
