Chainsaw Man chapter 156 recap: Denji Wakes up at the Tokyo Devil Detention Center
Chainsaw Man chapter 156, titled “Whup Whup Whup Whup Bzzz Split Split,” was released on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at 12 a.m. JST. It begins with Denji waking up in a panic on what seems to be a hospital bed.
While the protagonist looks terrified, he beckons Nayuta and finds Yoshida in the room, standing beside the bed. He then asks Yoshida about Nayuta’s whereabouts only to get silence as an answer. Desperate, he continues asking him about her and falls out of bed.
Yoshida confirms that he doesn’t know where she is and, to Denji’s surprise, tells him that he has been asleep for a week. He then reminds Denji that he broke the rules by transforming into Chainsaw Man and that such a step is nothing but an obstruction in his dream of living a normal life with Nayuta.
As Yoshida steps out of the room, he meets with his superiors and informs them that he put Denji to sleep with a sedative. Fumiko, who was standing amongst the superiors, corroborates that Denji would be amputated and that his body was now the State’s property. The chapter then cuts to Denji conversing with Pochita as he expresses that he has to wake up to save Nayuta. However, Pochita questions how he could do so in a condition like this.
This is when the chapter takes readers to an operating room where a bunch of surgeons are cutting Denji’s legs off. A Special Division agent reveals that he could not leave the room as he was tasked with killing Chainsaw Man in case he tried to escape.
Finally, the chapter reveals that Denji is in the Tokyo Devil Detention Center, where no devil could ever escape. Towards the end of the chapter, a mysterious character appears, whose identity remains undisclosed.
