Chainsaw Man Chapter 155 Spoilers: Did Nayuta Die?

Chainsaw Man chapter 155, as fans point out, is one of the most intriguing chapters in the manga. The chapter was released on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, and within a few hours, it became a sensation for its plot, the involvement of the characters, and the art style.

The chapter opens with Barem holding himself at gunpoint. However, this is a mere strategy to turn the crowd against Nayuta. He pretends that he is not in control of the gun and blames Nayuta for the unrest. Moreover, the gun is empty. With this uneasy yet riveting start, the chapter hints at a dramatic narrative unfolding.

As the crowd gets more restless by the minute, Nayuta’s life remains in grave danger. Unfortunately, Nayuta is left all alone to deal with it. Since the protagonist, Denji, is absent, Nayuta is evidently being pushed to her limits. However, despite panicking, she does not yet indulge in violence.

Chainsaw Man chapter 155 gives flashbacks to Nayuta and Denji’s life together

As the mob gets frenzied, the scene suddenly cuts to a flashback. This bittersweet flashback entails Denji and Nayuta living together and leading a sweet life, which is at least free from chaos. She plays with Denji and seems happy with the dogs. It looks as though she has left Makima way behind her.

However, as the plot gets lighter and happier, Nayuta’s gloom dawns upon her. She asks existential questions such as “Who am I?” as she grapples to make sense of her identity. It is then clear that, at the time, Makima had not completely left control over her mind. Moreover, with Makima’s remnants still haunting her occasionally, she contemplates ruining Denji’s life, the person with whom she found her home.

Chainsaw Man chapter 155: Nayuta’s disturbing thoughts take over

Though Nayuta’s disturbing thoughts are evidence of her past self, who wore a dark disposition, she chooses humanity despite being in a constant dilemma. Thus, she leaves Makima behind and actively decides to be herself. Fortunately, she chooses to be Nayuta and to live a happy life with Denji.

Denji is also shown introspecting on his dark past. It is as if his younger self does not let go of his older, improved self. In this sense, the chapter gets not only philosophical and existential but also psychologically disturbing when Denji contemplates his identity. In essence, the protagonist convinces himself that he does not deserve happiness. Additionally, the feeling that he cannot have a family takes over him entirely as he reflects on the fact that he killed his father.

Though the chapter does not return to the timeline in which Barem and Nayuta are present, readers are left in terror as Denji wakes up on a hospital bed. This could mean that either Nayuta is already dead or that she is seriously injured.

Finally, the possibility that Nayuta might die in the upcoming chapter or is already dead touches upon mangaka Tastsuki Fujimoto’s unpredictability to the narrative. Moreover, fans have been hoping for Asa’s return in the story. According to fans, although chapter 155 was heavy, it will be interesting to see how the plot unfolds moving forward.
