Sand Land Anime Revealed, Hulu Release Window Set

A Sand Land anime is officially coming, with Hulu announcing that Sand Land: The Series will debut on the streaming platform next year.

Sand Land: The Series will be a retelling of the 2023 movie based on the manga, and build upon the movie’s original universe, telling new stories featuring Fiend Prince Beelzebub, Sheriff Rao, and Thief.

The series will premiere some time in the spring of 2024, and stream exclusively on Hulu. Sunrise, the anime studio behind Mobile Suit Gundam and Love Live!, will work in collaboration with studio Kamikaze Douga and ANIMA to work on the series.

What is Sand Land about?

“In the far future, war has destroyed the entire Earth, leaving only a barren wasteland where the supply of water is controlled by the greedy king. In search of a long-lost lake, Sheriff Rao asked the king of the demons for help…and got the king’s son, Beelzebub, and his assistant, Thief. Together the unlikely trio sets off across the desert, facing dragons, bandits and the deadliest foe of all… the King’s army itself! It’s travel adventure and tank action in this new story from Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball Z!” the official synopsis from Viz Media states.

Sand Land is a shonen manga series created by Akira Toriyama. Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump serialized the manga from May 22, 2000, to August 28, 2000. There are 14 chapters, available in one volume. It was released on November 2, 2000, in Japan. Meanwhile, Viz Media handled the North American and English release of the series. They released the English volume on December 24, 2003.
