Pokémon: To Be a Pokémon Master Netflix Release Date Revealed

Following Ash Ketchum‘s victory after 25 years of catching pocket monsters, The Pokémon Company announced during its panel at San Diego Comic-Con that Pokémon: To Be a Pokémon Master — the final episodes in Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series — will arrive on Netflix on September 8.

The eleven-part special series concludes Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series and bids farewell to legendary Pokémon friends Ash and Pikachu.

Ash Finally Became “the Very Best”

Though the final episodes of the Pokémon anime’s 25th season debuted in Japan in January, it will be the first time U.S. and Latin American audiences will get to see the 10-year-old lead’s journey come to an end. Pokémon: To Be a Pokémon Master will feature Ash Ketchum’s return to the Kanto region after he and his buddy Pikachu defied all odds during Pokémon World Coronation’s Masters Eight Tournament, wherein he finally won the top trainer title.

While the first episodes of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series highlighted Ash Ketchum’s quest to become the world’s greatest trainer, Pokémon: To Be a Pokémon Master sees his return to the Kanto region, reuniting with Brock, Misty, and the rest of his old Pokémon friends, alongside his old enemies, Team Rocket.

Pokémon Continues Its Legacy With New Faces

Of course, Ash and Pikachu’s departure was an emotional moment for fans, as the two characters had been the franchise’s face since its inception. But though the duo already bid their goodbyes, new characters have emerged to continue the Pokémon legacy, with Pokémon Horizons: The Series having introduced two new trainers, Liko and Roy, as well as their companions Friede and Captain Pikachu.

In addition, Pokémon: Concierge will debut on Netflix later this year, following Pokémon Resort’s concierge, Haru, as she welcomes and accommodates the resort’s Pokémon and trainer guests.

Pokémon: To Be a Pokémon Master premieres on Netflix on September 8.
