Sand Land Movie Release Date Set for Akira Toriyama Adaptation

The Sand Land movie release date has been set for the upcoming adaptation of Akira Toriyama’s manga.

The official website of Sand Land revealed the release date during World Water Day. The film is coming to theaters in Japan on Friday, August 18, 2023. The studios Sunrise, Kamikaze Douga, and Anima are handling the anime’s production. The Sand Land project was first announced in December.

Sand Land is a shonen manga series created by Akira Toriyama. Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump serialized the manga from May 22, 2000, to August 28, 2000. There are 14 chapters, available in one volume. It was released on November 2, 2000, in Japan. Meanwhile, Viz Media handled the North American and English release of the series. They released the English volume on December 24, 2003.

Akira Toriyama is the creator of the famous manga Dragon Ball, which ran from 1984 to 1995. Prior to releasing Dragon Ball, he created Dr. Slump. Weekly Shonen Jump serialized the science fiction comedy manga from February 4, 1980, to September 10, 1984. The series received the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1981. Toei Animation released two anime adaptations of the series. They also produced 11 films about the series. Additionally, Toriyama has also written numerous one-shots throughout his manga career.
