Alongside the new trailer and visuals, casting information for the film was also confirmed, with actors Runa Hasuhara and Tsubasa Nakagawa being cast in the roles of Shizuku Tsukishima and Seiji Amasawa in their junior high school days, respectively.

Whisper of the Heart was originally released in 1995 as an animated musical comedy and was written by legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki. The film is based on the 1989 manga of the same name by Aoi Hiiragi and was animated by Studio Ghibli. The film marked the only theatrical film released by Ghibli that had not been directed by either Miyazaki or Isao Takahata for seven years, and despite not being directed by either, the film went on to massive success, becoming the highest-grossing Japanese film in the domestic market in 1999, and earning more than ¥3.15 billion (around $25 million) at the time.
