Toonami Announces 3 Anime Series, Including 2 FLCL Seasons

In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Toonami is ready to bring back FLCL, with Adult Swim announcing it has ordered two new seasons of the anime alongside an all-new anime series.

FLCL: Grunge will be directed by Hitoshi Takekiyo (Appleseed XIII) and produced by MontBlanc Pictures, with FLCL: Shoegaze directed by Yukata Uemura (FLCL Alternative) and co-produced by Production I.G. (Ghost in the Shell, Psycho-Pass) and Studio NUT (FLCL Alternative, Deca-Dence). Both series are set to air sometime in 2023, according to Toonami creative director Jason DeMarco.

Alongside the news, Adult Swim also released a brief look at FLCL: Grunge, featuring a different animation style than in past FLCL iterations, but retaining the original anime’s iconic theme song of “Ride on Shooting Star” by The Pillows.

Elsewhere, Adult Swim also announced a new anime series, Housing Complex C, which will be directed by Yuji Nara with a script and original concept by amphibian. Housing Complex C will tell the story of Kimi, who lives in a small, low-cost housing complex located in the seaside town of Kurosaki. However, “horrific incidents begin to occur” in the complex.
