Ghost in the Shell 4K Release Comes to UK and Ireland This July

Today, Funimation UK announced the Ghost in the Shell 4K UHD Blu-ray will release in the UK and Ireland on July 12, 2021. You can check out the cover art in the gallery below!

Originally released in 1995, this version of Mamoru Oshii’s incredibly popular and beloved film will be remastered in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos with HDR. There will be two editions, a standard edition, and a Collector’s Edition 4K Steelbook, both of which will include artwork by British artist Matt Ferguson. Ferguson is known for his work with Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars franchises.

Additionally, both editions will contain brand-new special features that should appease both newcomers and fans of Ghost in the Shell. This includes full-length audio commentary of the film with the voices of Mary Claypool, Eric Calderon, Richard Epcar, and Charles Solomon. There will also be the featurettes “Accessing Section 9: 25 Years in the Future” and “Landscapes & Dreamscapes — The Art and Architecture of Ghost in the Shell”.

The Collector’s Edition will contain Ghost in the Shell on 4K Blu-ray, a Blu-ray bonus disc, six art cards, and a fold-out poster, all packaged in a Steelbook featuring Ferguson’s artwork. You can pre-order both the standard edition and the Collector’s Edition on Zavvi for £19.99 and £39.99 respectively.

As stated above, Ghost in the Shell was originally released in 1995. The film is an adaptation of the Masamune Shirow manga of the same name, which began in 1989. It is considered one of the most influential anime films ever made.

In 2017, Scarlett Johansson starred in a live-action film adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, which was directed by Rupert Sanders and written by Jamie Moss.
