AFI Fest 2018’s Lineup Includes Patty Jenkins’ I Am the Night

TheWrap brings word that Director Patty Jenkins’ (Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984) TNT limited series I Am the Night, starring Chris Pine (Wonder Woman 1984), will lead AFI Fest 2018’s lineup with its first episode being screened at the festival, which begins November 8.

AFI Fest will start with the world premiere of the Ruth Bader Ginsburg biopic On the Basis of Sex and will close with Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan’s Mary, Queen of Scots. Other major films being featured during the special screenings include Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma, Asghar Farhadi’s Everybody Knows, Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite, Brady Corbet’s Vox Lux and Jon S. Baird’s North American premiere of Stan & Ollie.

I Am the Night tells the incredible true story of Fauna Hodel (India Eisley), a young woman who was given away at birth. As Fauna begins to investigate the secrets to her past, she follows a sinister trail that leads her to infamous Hollywood gynecologist, Dr. George Hodel (Jefferson Mays), a man involved in the darkest Hollywood debauchery.

Pine stars as Jay Singletary, a former Marine-turned-hack-reporter/paparazzo. Fellow series stars include Eisley (Underworld AwakeningLook Away) as Fauna Hodel, Tony Award Winner Jefferson Mays (The AmericansLaw & Order: SVU) as George Hodel, Yul Vazquez (Captain Phillips) as Billis, Justin Cornwell (Training DayWe Are Boats) as Terrence Shye, Dylan Smith (Maze Runner: The Death CureLemonade) as Sepp, Jay Paulson (Mad Men) as Ohls and Golden Brooks (Girlfriends) as Jimmy Lee, and Leland Orser (Berlin Station) as Peter Sullivan, a Night Managing Editor for the Los Angeles Times.

I Am the Night is written by Sam Sheridan (A Fighter’s HeartThe Disaster Diaries) and Monica Beletsky (FargoParenthood). The series is being produced by Turner’s Studio T, with Jenkins, Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar (13 Reasons WhySpotlight), Pine and Sheridan serving as executive producers.

I Am the Night will premiere on TNT in January 2019.
