Kathryn Newton to Star in Modern Lord of the Flies Series for Netflix

Netflix announced today that they have ordered a new drama series for their service from Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Chris Keyser (Highland Park). The untitled series, a modern take on Lord of the Flies, has been given a 10 episode order.

The series follows a group of teenagers who are mysteriously transported to a facsimile of their wealthy New England town, left without any trace of their parents. As they struggle to figure out what has happened to them and how to get home, they must establish order and form alliances if they want to survive.

The upcoming project is different from the female-centric version of the William Golding novel which is being planned as a feature film at Warner Bros.

Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies, Lady Bird) has been cast in the starring role. She can next be seen in the second season of Big Little Lies as well as Legendary Pictures’ upcoming Detective Pikachu feature film. As the moves forward, we’ll learn more of who will be joining her.

Marc Webb and Chris Keyser will be executive producing. There is no word yet on tentative release times for the series.
