Barry and Silicon Valley Renewed by HBO

Following the recent season premieres of both shows, HBO has renewed the comedy series Barry and Silicon Valley.

The announcement was made today by Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO programming, who said: “While Barry has delighted audiences with its deft interplay of comedy and drama, Silicon Valley remains as brilliantly and frighteningly prescient as ever. We’re thrilled that these two smart, funny shows are returning for another season.”

Barry is a dark comedy starring Bill Hader as a depressed, low-rent hitman from the Midwest. Lonely and dissatisfied in his life, he reluctantly travels to Los Angeles to execute a hit on an aspiring actor. Barry follows his “mark” into an acting class and ends up finding an accepting community in a group of eager hopefuls within the LA theater scene. He wants to start a new life as an actor, but his criminal past won’t let him walk away – can he find a way to balance both worlds? The eight-episode series also stars Stephen Root (HBO’s All the Way), Sarah Goldberg (Hindsight), Glenn Fleshler (HBO’s True Detective), Anthony Carrigan (Gotham) and Henry Winkler (Arrested Development).

The series was created, executive produced and written by Alec Berg (HBO’s Silicon Valley) and Bill Hader, and produced by Aida Rogers. The show began production last spring, and the current season concludes on May 13.

Silicon Valley takes a comic look at the modern-day epicenter of the high-tech gold rush, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success. A collaboration between Mike Judge and Alec Berg, Silicon Valley’s Season 5 cast includes Thomas Middleditch, Zach Woods, Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr, Josh Brener, Amanda Crew, Matt Ross, Suzanne Cryer and Jimmy O. Yang. Former star TJ Miller departed the series after the fourth season,

Silicon Valley was created by Mike Judge & John Altschuler & Dave Krinsky; executive producers include Judge, Alec Berg, Michael Rotenberg and Tom Lassally; co-executive producers, Jim Kleverweis, Clay Tarver, Dan O’Keefe, Jamie Babbit, Chris Provenzano and Graham Wagner; supervising producers, Adam Countee, Carrie Kemper and Aaron Zelman; consulting producer, Jonathan Dotan. Season five returned for its eight-episode season on March 25.
