Comic Book Series The New West Planned for Adaptation

Jimmy Palmiotti and Phil Noto’s 2005 miniseries, The New West, has been optioned by Benderspink, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter. Gareb Shamus, whose now-defunct Black Bull Entertainment published the series, will also produce. The original description for the first issue (of two) is as follows:

Our story begins with a disgraced former Los Angeles Police detective Daniel Wise, who endures a near future deserted hostile LA environment where the Mayor has now been kidnapped and Daniel Wise is the only one who can save him, but can he do it with just a horse and sword?

Palmiotti’s work has previously been adapted for the small screen in the form of a television movie and a series based on his original character, “Painkiller Jane.” There’s no word yet on whether or not Palmiotti — who himself has dabbled in screenwriting — will be involved in the planned adaptation.
