CS Video: Sofia Coppola and Her The Beguiled Cast

CS sits down with The Beguiled director Sofia Coppola and stars Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning

Beginning to hit theaters this weekend, Focus Features‘ The Beguiled is the latest from Academy Award-winning writer and director Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides). A gothic thriller set against the backdrop of the Civil War, the script for The Beguiled was adapted by Coppola from Thomas Cullinan’s original novel of the same name. That same book was adapted for the screen by director Don Siegel in 1971 with Clint Eastwood in the lead. Coppola’s version, however, tells the story from the perspective of the female characters. CS recently sat down with Coppola and two of her The Beguiled stars, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning. In the player below, you can take a look behind the scenes of the new release.

The Beguiled unfolds in a girls’ school in the state of Virginia in 1864. As the Civil War rages, The Miss Martha Farnsworth Seminary for Young Ladies has been sheltered from the outside world— until the day a wounded Union soldier is discovered nearby and taken in.

The Beguiled cast also includes Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell, Oona Laurence, Emma Howard, Angourie Rice and Addison Riecke.

Anne Ross is serving as production designer on The Beguiled, marking her own fifth collaboration with Coppola. The film’s costume designer is Stacey Battat (their fourth collaboration). The director of photography on The Beguiled is Academy Award nominee Philippe Le Sourd (The Grandmaster), and the movie was fully shot on 35mm film.

The Beguiled opens in select cities this Friday, June 23, with an expansion set for June 30.
