The Fate of the Furious Rockets to $532.5 Million Worldwide

Universal Pictures‘ The Fate of the Furious opened No. 1 in North America and all 63 international markets where it was released. In Universal’s most ambitious global release ever, the film played in nearly 23,000 theaters around the world, including IMAX and large format, and grossed an estimated $532.5 million worldwide ($432.3 million international and $100.2 million domestic).

Domestically, The Fate of the Furious earned $100.2 million from 4,310 theaters, an average of $23,244 per theater. The film received a strong A CinemaScore from audiences.

With this weekend’s results, the Fast & Furious franchise has grossed more than $4.4 billion worldwide and continues to be one of the only original franchises to reach results of this magnitude. The Fate of the Furious marks the second-highest domestic opening in the series’ 16-year history, spanning eight titles, behind only 2015’s Furious 7, which earned $147.2 million its first weekend.

This marks the highest-grossing opening for an African American director, F. Gary Gray, who brought his signature style to the newest chapter in this franchise.

The Fate of the Furious had IMAX’s biggest April worldwide opening ever ($31.1 million) and is now the fourth-biggest worldwide IMAX opening of all time.

Saturday’s international gross is $127.3 million. This is Universal International’s highest grossing Saturday of all time. The international weekend estimate is $432.3 million. This will be the biggest international weekend by a large margin, beating the previous record holder, Universal’s Jurassic World with $316.7 million.

The F. Gary Gray-directed The Fate of the Furious stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky, Kurt Russell, Scott Eastwood, Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren.
