CS Video: Inside Personal Shopper with Kristen Stewart and Olivier Assayas

Writer/director Olivier Assayas and Kristen Stewart chase cinematic spirits in Personal Shopper

After finding creative success with their acclaimed Clouds of Sils Maria in 2014, writer and director Olivier Assayas (Carlos, Summer Hours) and star Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga, Cafe Society) have again teamed for a new drama, Personal Shopper. Now playing in a limited release through IFC Films, Personal Shopper stars Stewart as Maureen Cartwright, a young woman still grieving over the recent loss of her twin brother. Living as Paris as a personal shopper that buys high end fashion for a wealthy client, Maureen spends every spare moment attempting to reach out into the afterlife, hanging around her dead brother’s home in the hopes of catching a sign of his spirit and just maybe having the chance to speak with him one more time.

CS recently had the chance to sit down with Assayas and Stewart and, in the player below, you can watch as they discuss working together and explain how finding meaning within a scene can be very different for each of them and how any given interpretation of the haunting, ethereal moments in Personal Shopper are more important than any scene having a singular, absolute meaning.

Personal Shopper also stars Anders Danielsen Lie, Lars EidingerNora von Waldstätten, Pamela Betsy Cooper and Benjamin Biolay.

An Official Selection of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, Personal Shopper is now playing in a limited release.

We’ve also updated our Personal Shopper gallery. Check out four stills from the film in the gallery viewer at the bottom of this page.
