Audio Interview: Radha Mitchell on SILENT HILL, SACRIFICE and the Horrors of Motherhood

SHOCK talks to actress Radha Mitchell about her latest film SACRIFCE and her role in the classic horror movie SILENT HILL.

Australian born actress Radha Mitchell has appeared in numerous film of every sort of budget in every class of genre. But she will always hold a special place in the hearts of lovers of more fantastical filmmaking, starring as she has in pictures like PITCH BLACK, the remake of George A. Romero’s THE CRAZIES and, of course, the nightmarish, based-on-a-game masterpiece SILENT HILL.

Opening this Friday in select markets and on VOD is Mitchell’s latest horror film, Peter A. Dowling’s folk terror mystery SACRIFICE, based on the novel by Sharon Bolton.

In it, Mitchell plays Tora, a doctor mourning the loss of her unborn baby, who moves with her husband (Rupert Graves) to the Shetland Islands off the coast of Scotland to arrange an adoption.  But all is not right in the wealthy, well-rooted community. When Tora makes an unnerving discovery in the body of a young woman with strange symbols carved into her flesh and her heart ripped out, she’s plunged into a dangerous mystery that may be connected to the dark myths of the island’s folklore.

SACRIFICE is a solid thriller and SHOCK had the chance to speak with Mitchell about the movie and the well-worn trope of mourning mothers in horror movies. We also spent some time remembering Christophe Gans’ mesmerizing SILENT HILL…

Have a listen and be sure to check out SACRIFICE when it opens this Friday at New York’s IFC Center and then on May 6th at LA’s Arena Theatre.

And also stay tuned to SHOCK for yet another interview in the coming weeks, talking about her upcoming Blumhouse horror movie THE DARKNESS!
