Forgotten Horror Flick VAMPIRES Coming to DVD

Lost horror film VAMPIRES coming to DVD.

There’s a curious late ‘80s horror flick that this writer recalls haunting video store shelves as a kid called FRIGHT HOUSE. And if you rented it, you might recall that it wasn’t very good and seemed to consist of two totally unrelated film smashed together willy-nilly without rhyme or reason.

FRIGHT HOUSE (1989) was directed by Len Anthony and it was indeed an amalgam of two movies, the second of which was actually a forgotten Anthony picture released in 1986 called VAMPIRES (also known as ABADON), that he opted to give another spin here.

VAMPIRES is a pretty dim-bulb indie picture but it’s of historical note in that it is one of the final films of actor Duane Jones, the star of George A. Romero’s breakthrough American horror masterwork NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and the great Ernest Dickerson (DEMON KNIGHT, THE WALKING DEAD) shot the movie.

Now, for whatever reason, Film Chest Media have dug deep and are releasing VAMPIRES on DVD on May 10th

Here’s the synopsis:

An eager, young student, Ione (NINJA ACADEMY) is excited to begin the next chapter of her life when she is awarded a scholarship to attend the prestigious art school at the Abadon estate in New England, which happens to have a distant history of working with the criminally insane.

Soon after arriving on campus, she begins to realize something is amiss with the student body. When some classmates go missing – and no one can seem to account for their whereabouts – Ione decides to investigate.

While searching for clues, Ione encounters Dr. Charles Harmon (JONES), who tells her about Madeline Abadon and her quest to suck the youthful energy from students in order to gain immortality.

Charles is then encumbered with the harrowing task of disarming Madeline and her “mad scientist” machine … But will he be able to end the demonic foray on campus before it’s too late?

Curious horror fans looking for a forgotten piece of cinema history might want to give it look…
