A&E to Adapt Let the Right One In to Series

The widely celebrated Let The Right One In is on its way to becoming our most adapted contemporary horror classic. Originally a novel by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist, the story was scripted into the incredible 2008 Swedish film form director Tomas Alfredson, remade by Matt Reeves into the well-received American movie Let Me In and terrifically brought to the stage by Jack Thorne and the National Theatre of Scotland, a production which just finished a run at Brooklyn’s St. Ann’s Warehouse. Now, channel A&E, currently airing Psycho series Bates Motel and the remake of the French The Returned is bringing the story of a young boy and his vampire neighbor to series.

THR reports Teen Wolf showrunner Jeff Davis and screenwriter Brandon Boyce will adapt the novel/film for the channel. No word on timeline, but this could be real cool. If you’ve read the novel, you know it’s much more expansive than either the two films or the stage play (which presents a really neat interpretation on Eli), including a larger arc for vampire Eli’s guardian/blood getter Håkan. The novel, films and play all told the story of young, bullied boy Oskar and the seemingly-child vampire who moves in next door. A tender, macabre relationship develops and since affected many of us in the process.
