Netflix Horrors: Recommends & the Latest Titles Added to Instant 10/24

“Netflix Horrors” is a regular column in which Shock Till You Drop alerts you to the latest genre titles to hit the VOD service. For all previous updates, click here. Keep in mind, of course, that Netflix rotates titles or pulls them – sometimes they’ll reappear at a later date so if you’re sifting through previous updates and cannot find a title, it may have very well been pulled.

Darknet is available as of today. This is the anthology horror series about a website called “Darknet” that connects a series of terror tales. The series is adapted from the cult Japanese television series, Tori Hada, by Vincenzo Natali (Splice, Cube) and Steven Hoban (Black Christmas, Ginger Snaps).

Give it a look. Like most anthologies, the stories are hit or miss.

Also worth recommending is In Fear. The film is a psychological thriller about a young couple’s fight to make it through the night. Home invasion but in a car.  In real-time. Tom and Lucy are trapped in a maze of country roads with only their vehicle for protection, terrorized by an unseen tormentor hell-bent on exploiting their worst fears. Driving, lost and tormented in the night, primal fears of the dark and the unknown give way to fear that you have let the evil in, or that it is already there.

R.L. Stan’s The Haunting Hour season 2 is available for the kids. Battle Royale and Battle Royale 2 hit Instant as well. The first is mandatory viewing, especially if you’d like to see what inspired The Hunger Games. The sequel is an inferior bit of work, but if you’re a completist, check it out.

And, finally, there’s Mr. Jones. I wasn’t a fan of this one, so it’s a “pass.”

Scott and Penny just moved to a remote cabin to escape the pressures of the world and breathe new life into their art. But they’ll soon discover they are not alone: an infamously reclusive artist – known only as ‘Mr. Jones’ – lives nearby. He doesn’t like to be disturbed, and only comes out at night when he drags his strange, sinister sculptures deep into the woods. When Scott and Penny’s curiosity leads them too close for Mr. Jones’ comfort, he plunges the young couple into a nightmare world of mayhem, madness and mind-bending terror.
