Joe Dante’s Long-Gestating Monster Love Evolves Into Ombra Amore

Financing for the project is underway at The Rome Film Festival’s New Cinema Network, says THR. The original premise concerned Peter and Maggie, a werewolf and vampire, respectively, who meet under unusual circumstances. He was a dog walker and she was a suicidal young woman. In Ombra Amore, however, the film is now being set against the backdrop of Italy.

THR explains:

Pete is a werewolf whose pack is a crew of hotheaded financial traders responsible for Italy’s current economic crisis. Maggie is a vampire whose family is a formerly-wealthy aristocratic clan brought to bankruptcy by the greedy werewolves. Amongst a series of other-worldly troubles, it remains to be seen whether or not their love can survive among the warring families.

Interesting to see how a film can evolve, yes? We’ll keep you posted if Dante finds the money for the project. In the meantime, keep an eye out for his next film Burying the Ex which debuted at the Venice Film Festival. There should be some distribution news coming soon about that one.
