Exclusive: The Strangers’ Bryan Bertino Prepping to Direct Found Footage Film, First Plot Details

When the project was initially reported back in November 2011, it was believed he was only writing the project, however, Shock Till You Drop can confirm that he is indeed directing for Universal.

Shooting is expected to being at the end of February with Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity) producing.  Casting is currently underway.  After the jump, we reveal some early plot details.

Shock has learned Mockingbird concerns a couple who receive a video camera with a document of strict instructions.  If they don’t follow the rules, they’re told someone will die.  The film will follow their hellish ordeal as they do what they are told.

Bertino last directed the 2008 horror hit The Strangers, starring Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler, for Universal and Rogue Pictures.  Since then, he scripted The Strangers 2, which sits in development hell.  He is also set to produce Grim Night for Universal which is based on a script by Brandon Bestenheider and Allen Bey.
