Raimi Strolls Through the Monster Zoo

Paramount keen on upcoming graphic novel

Producers Sam Raimi (Drag Me to Hell) and Josh Donen will adapt Doug TenNapel’s Monster Zoo under their Buckaroo Entertainment production umbrella. The source material was picked up by Paramount Pictures and is drawn from an Image Comics graphic novel arriving in May.

TenNapel’s story is being labeled an action-adventure but sounds steeped enough in the bizarre (at least it promises some nifty FX creations!) to hold our attention: When an ancient idol is unearthed and transported to a zoo in the U.S., it awakens a spirit that starts to mutate the caged animals. A group of teenagers must then band together to try to stop the idol and the evil from destroying the world.

Gotham Group is co-producing. Paramount’s acquisition deal cost them a sweet low-six against seven figures.
