James McAvoy Joins Charlize Theron in Spy Thriller The Coldest City

Variety is reporting that James McAvoy (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Wanted) is in talks to join Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road, Prometheus) in the Focus Features spy thriller The Coldest City.

Set in the late 1980s, the film centers around a spy dealing with the aftermath of the murder of an underground MI6 officer.

Former stunt coordinator David Leitch is going solo from his John Wick directing partner Chad Stahelski in order to helm this movie, while Stahelski takes on John Wick 2. The screenplay for The Coldest City was written by Kurt Johnstad (300, Act of Valor), with shooting taking place in November in Budapest and Berlin.

James McAvoy just replaced Joaquin Phoenix in M. Night Shyamalan’s next untitled Blumhouse thriller, and will reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse. He will next be seen opposite Daniel Radcliffe in Fox’s Victor Frankenstein, which opens November 25.
