Christopher Plummer is Out for Revenge in Trailer for Atom Egoyan’s ‘Remember’

I have not seen much of director Atom Egoyan‘s work, this includes his Oscar-nominated feature The Sweet Hereafter, so I can’t speak to the director he was. I can, however, speak to what I’ve seen as of late, that being Chloe and Devil’s Knot, and I can’t say I’m necessarily impressed or all that inclined to stand in line for whatever he has coming out next. Then again, when what’s coming next stars Christopher Plummer and Martin Landau I have to admit my ears perk up a little bit as seeing these two chew scenery alongside one another does sound intriguing.

The film I’m speaking of is Remember and it’s set to premiere at Venice followed by a North American premiere in Toronto and today, on top of some first look pictures, I have the first trailer for the movie. First, here’s the plot:

Remember is the contemporary story of Zev (Plummer), who discovers that the Nazi guard who murdered his family some 70 years ago is living in America under an assumed identity. Despite the obvious challenges, Zev sets out on a mission to deliver long-delayed justice with his own trembling hand. What follows is a remarkable cross-continent road-trip with surprising consequences.

Personally, watching the trailer, I already have some concerns and just the plot alone seems like something that can only end in a couple of ways and actually get the funding necessary to get it made. However, this seems like a film where we’re showing up more for the performances than the plot. The bits containing the confrontation with Dean Norris alone seem a bit contrived, but with the likes of Bruno Ganz also starring it just seems like this may be worth giving a once over should my Toronto schedule make room.
