You’re getting a truncated box office wrap up for now as I have to head out the door, but we do have some official number in beginning with Jurassic World, which added $54.2 million to its total, bringing its domestic cume to $500 million in just 17 days, beating the previous 23 day record set by The Avengers by nearly a week.
Jurassic World is in a close race for first with Pixar’s Inside Out, which brought in $52.1 million for the weekend, bringing its cume to $184.9 million, though this race for number one won’t be decided until actuals arrive on Monday morning.
As for the weekend’s major new release, Ted 2 wasn’t nearly as impressive as its predecessor. The sequel to the talking teddy bear comedy managed only $32.9 million. The first film opened with $54 million with a $51 million budget, while this sequel is carrying a reported $68 million budget. The nearly $33 million result is a bit more of a down-to-earth number result. Opening day audiences gave it a “B+” CinemaScore.
The Warner Bros. family release, Max, impressed opening day audiences with an “A” CinemaScore and its weekend total fetched $12.2 million, which doesn’t seem too bad for a movie carrying a $20 million budget as the theatrical take for this movie just seems like it’s likely the cherry on top the upcoming home video release and television rights.
