One of the best-reviewed action films of last year, John Wick turned out to be a surprising success, earning $78.7 million at the worldwide box office on a $20 million budget and reinstating Keanu Reeves as an action star in the process. Reeves announced he was indeed “back” during that film, and it seems he’s now ready for more as Lionsgate has officially announced plans for a sequel.
[amz asin=”B00OV3VGP0″ size=”small”]Co-directors David Leitch and Chad Staheliski will again share the director’s chair for John Wick 2, and screenwriter Derek Kolstad is back as well, reuniting the creative team from the first film in hopes of spawning yet another breakout hit. Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment will distribute the adrenaline-fueled followup. From Jason Constantine, President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions at Lionsgate:
“With such tremendous fan and critical support for John Wick, we knew that there was still so much more of this story to tell. We are thrilled that Keanu, David and Chad have re-teamed with us and promise to bring audiences even more excitement the second time around.”
As far as a synopsis is concerned, right now this is all we’ve got from the studio: “In the follow up to last year’s adrenaline-fueled revenge and redemption thriller, legendary hit man John Wick is back.” So yeah, get ready people.
