Like Resident Evil before it, Need for Speed is getting a sequel thanks in large part to massive returns overseas. While the first film was budgeted at $66 million and only grossed $45 million domestically, it’s the additional $159 million it made overseas that is propelling this sequel into development with China Movie Channel, Jiaflix and 1905.com teaming with video game company Electronic Arts making the film. With China audiences responsible for $65+ million of that overseas total this is just one more example of Hollywood teaming with China to find dollars at the worldwide box office.
