Might Jackie Earle Haley be The Thinker in ‘Suicide Squad’?

The information below should be taken with a grain of salt for now, as there isn’t much solid information to back it up aside from the rumor reported by Latino Review, but according to the site it seems Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) might be joining DC Comics‘ growing cinematic universe — ahem, multiverse — via a role in Warner Bros.‘ forthcoming adaptation of Suicide Squad.

According to the rumor, Haley’s name has been tossed around as a possible actor to take on the role of The Thinker, a supervillain who, per the comic book cell in the Instagram post embedded below, has “beyond genius-level I.Q., but suffers from a nerve-degenerating disease that is beginning to cripple him.” In his most popular incarnation, as a failed lawyer turned villainous mastermind, The Thinker has technologically derived telekinesis and mind control via a metal hat, which is pretty cool if you’re into that kind of stuff, though a metal hat sounds a little heavy if you ask me. I don’t know, maybe I just have a small head.

The frame posted by Latino Review also mentions “Waller”, who is of course Amanda Waller, the former congressional aide who leads the titular squad and will be played by Viola Davis in the film. Suffice to say, The Thinker certainly fits into the realm of possibility here as a character who may show up in the film, though nothing is yet confirmed. Further, while I’m not familiar with the entirety of Haley’s work, I’ve seen him in enough to believe he would make a solid supervillain — Watchmen, Little Children — if in fact this rumor is proven true.

So for now, consider this a rumor and take it with a grain of salt (or two or three), but take a peek at the photo posted below and let us know what you think. Is Suicide Squad shaping up to be a film you are really itching to see? I’m not the biggest comic book movie fan, but I’m definitely intrigued, and while this doesn’t move the needle big time it certainly wouldn’t hurt.
