Paramount Picks Up ‘Captive’ Starring David Oyelowo and Kate Mara

Paramount Pictures has just announced they have picked up and will distribute Captive, a new drama starring David Oyelowo (Selma) and Kate Mara (“House of Cards”, Fantastic Four), directed by Jerry Jameson.

The film is based on the book “Unlikely Angel: The Untold Story of the Atlanta Hostage Hero” by Ashley Smith with Stacy Mattingly telling the story of Smith (Mara), a single mother struggling to overcome her drug addiction and attempting to regain custody of her six-year-old daughter. Her world, however, goes dark when she is taken hostage by fugitive, murderer and accused rapist Brian Nichols (Oyelowo) for seven hours in her suburban Atlanta apartment. Armed with only her faith in God and the book “The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren, she is able to survive the ordeal, changing both her and Nichols forever.

The film co-stars Michael Kenneth Williams, Mimi Rogers, Leonor Varela and Oyelowo’s wife, Jessica Oyelowo. Paramount has set a Toronto Film Festival-friendly September 18 release date.
