Eastwood Over DuVernay in 2015 Directors Guild Nominations

Yikes, this is… I’m sorry, this is embarrassing. The Directors Guild of America (DGA) have announced their 2015 award nominations and while we have the anticipated usual suspects in Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman), Richard Linklater (Boyhood), Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel) and Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game), the org has gone with Clint Eastwood (American Sniper) for the fifth and final slot and it’s something I simply can’t get on board with and seriously hope the Academy doesn’t follow suit this Thursday.

While I would suggest Ava DuVernay (Selma) as a first alternative when it comes to awards nominations, there are several more obvious contenders such as David Fincher (Gone Girl), Damien Chazelle (Whiplash), Bennett Miller (Foxcatcher), Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler), or, hell, just about anyone other than Eastwood for his melodramatic, misshapen movie.

The DGA will announce their winners on February 7, check out the list of nominees once again directly below.

  • Clint Eastwood (American Sniper)
  • Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman)
  • Richard Linklater (Boyhood)
  • Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel)
  • Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game)
