Official Offer Out to Harrison Ford to Return for ‘Blade Runner 2’

It would appear whether you want a Blade Runner 2 or not you’re going to get one as Warner Bros-based Alcon Entertainment wrote a press release today simply announcing they’ve extended an offer to Harrison Ford to reprise his celebrated role of Rick Deckard in its Ridley Scott-directed sequel to Blade Runner.

Details pertaining to the sequel’s plot remain clandestine, though the announcement does say the screenplay was written by Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the 1982 adaptation) and Michael Green (Green Lantern) with the story set to take place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original.

State Johnson and Alcon co-founder and co-CEO Andrew Kosove were quoted in the release saying, “We believe that Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have crafted with Ridley Scott an extraordinary sequel to one of the greatest films of all time. We would be honored, and we are hopeful, that Harrison will be part of our project.”

It’s a curious way to make an “offer” considering it sounds more like begging as Alcon clearly hopes to drum up fan support to inspire Ford to say “yes” and it does seem Ford is interested. Earlier this year he participated in a Reddit AMA and when asked about the sequel he said, “I’m quite curious and excited about seeing a new script for Blade Runner if in fact the opportunity would exist to do another, if it’s a good script I would be very anxious to work with Ridley Scott again, he’s a very talented and passionate filmmaker… and I think it would be very interesting to revisit the character.”

Who knows, maybe we’ll see him back. The next question, I guess, is to wonder if the film happens if Ford doesn’t decide to return. What then?
