Bloody New ‘Carrie’ Poster and Pictures

Carrie was originally expected to be in theaters over a month ago, but Screen Gems rightly decided to avoid confrontation with Evil Dead and shifted it to mid-October where it resides smack dab in-between Spike Lee’s Oldboy and Paranormal Activity 5. One, if not two, of those films is looking to fail as the marketplace can only sustain so much violence and scares. While the three films aren’t exactly equals, I just can’t imagine all three finding success so close together.

Moving along… With the date shift I’m sure Screen Gems has plenty of marketing to offer given the fact they were prepped for an early year release and now have an additional seven months to continue the awareness campaign. Today I have a few updates for you including two pictures and a bloody new poster (via Empire).

Carrie is a new adaptation of the Stephen King novel of the same name directed by Kimberly Peirce. The Maine-set story centers on the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Judy Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday, Youth in Revolt), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde, The Three Musketeers), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (newcomer Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.
