Weâll begin tonightâs Night Cap with some behind-the-scenes information pertaining to The Dark Knight Rises. To be more specific, the filmâs villain Bane as played by Tom Hardy and what we didnât see in the final film.
Speaking with GQ (via Slashfilm), costume designer Lindy Hemming discusses a scene pertaining to Baneâs origin story that wasnât in the final film:
The thing that you should have seen during that sequence is [Bane] being injured in his youth. So one of the fundamental things about his costume is that he has this scar from the back injury. Even if he hasnât got the bulletproof vest on, he still has to wear the waist belt and the braces. In that scene in the prison, where heâs learning to fight the same way Batman learned to fight, heâs wearing an early version of his waist belt. Itâs showing support, but itâs not the finished one he eventually wears. Heâs also wearing an early version of his gas mask, all glued together ââŹÂŚ If you look at the film, unless theyâve cut itâand Iâm sure they havenâtâthereâs a whole early section for Tom Hardy where heâs fighting and being taunted by people. Heâs got chains on him, and heâs standing on a wooden thing while people are attacking him. And in that scene, heâs wearing a much more ragged, primitive version of the mask.
When told the scene wasnât in the final film Hemming added, âI wonât elaborate on it too much, because it isnât in the film, but there was another section that showed you why he had the mask and where it came from.â
There has been a lot of talk of how the original screenplay for The Dark Knight Rises was 400 pages long, which was eventually cut down to a 165-page shooting script, which was actually online only a few days ago but has since been removed. Considering the film ultimately ran as long as it possibly could and still be spooled for IMAX 70mm screenings Iâve wondered myself if anything was cut that Nolan may have preferred been in the final film, but couldnât due to limitations spooling the large IMAX format film.
At the same time as this information comes out, artist Sebastian Lochmann uploaded the concept designs for scars on Baneâs back, which were also never featured in the film. You can see one example above and the other directly below.
Speaking of Bane, here is a pretty stupid Bane parody featuring Chris Kattan as The Dark Knight Rises villain following the events of the film.

Despite reports Jim Carrey was bowing out, Jeff Daniels says the Dumb and Dumber sequel, Dumb and Dumber To, is still on. âJim wants to do it. I want to do it. The Farrelly [Bros.] want to do it. They want to rewrite the script a little bit and they arenât trying to jam it in before I have to go back and do âNewsroomâ in November⌠So theyââŹâ˘re going, âWhy donât we just do it right? Letâs get everybody organized to go next May or June.â If everything works out on the business side, thatâs what weâll do but I think thereââŹâ˘s more hope than ever.â [Crave]
Kevin Costner is lining up a pair of projects. First off he has been offered the co-lead of the Kenneth Branagh-directed Jack Ryan film starring Chris Pine (Star Trek) in the title role and Branagh as the filmâs villain. Heâs also being courted by Luc Bessonâs Europacorp to star as a dying assassin in Three Days To Kill. The role in the Ryan feature is said to be a close cousin to James Earl Jonesâ role in the previous films with Jones expected to return (which is awesome news) with Costner playing Ryanâs mentor who recruits him and shows him the ropes. [Deadline]
Speaking of Costner, he stars in Zack Snyderâs Superman movie Man of Steel, which was produced by Christopher Nolan who just so happened to discuss the film briefly with Digital Spy. Hereâs a look.
