First Trailer for ‘Margaret’ Starring Matt Damon and Anna Paquin

Filming on Kenneth Lonergan‘s Margaret wrapped six years ago. The titular character is played by Anna Paquin (“True Blood”) who was around 23 when the film completed shooting Matt Damon will be just shy of 41 when the film hits theaters on September 30. Legal entanglements kept the film shelved until now so don’t immediately write this off as a junk film the studio is dumping to get it out of the way. And considering this is a feature that uses the events of September 11th as a back-drop maybe it’s for the best it hadn’t seen the light of day until now and can now be seen as something of a timecapsule.

All that said, today we get our first glimpse at the film, which centers on a 17-year-old New York City high-school student (Paquin) who feels certain she inadvertently played a role in a traffic accident that has claimed a woman’s life. In her attempts to set things right she meets with opposition at every step. Torn apart with frustration, she begins emotionally brutalizing her family, her friends, her teachers, and most of all, herself. She has been confronted quite unexpectedly with a basic truth: that her youthful ideals are on a collision course against the realities and compromises of the adult world.

As I said, the film hits theaters on September 30. You can check out the trailer directly below. I’d love to read your comments on what you think of it.
