Is it big news when Darren Aronofsky announces the title of his sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine won’t be X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2, or anything seeming to have to do with the idea of X-Men Origins at all? In fact, he’s announced he’s shedding the pomp of extended titles and subtitles and his new film will be simply titled The Wolverine.
Hit Fix spoke to the helmer who also confirmed his longtime cinematographer Matty Libatique (Iron Man, The Fountain) will be shooting The Wolverine for him.
Beyond that, Aronofsky told the site he refers to The Wolverine “as a ‘one-off,’ and he emphasized that the film isn’t a sequel in any conventional sense.” Expectation is for the film to pick-up where Gavin Hood’s 2009 entry ended, but perhaps we should expect a little less bubble gum gloss in Aronofsky’s sequel and a little more down and dirty, nitty and the gritty.
Previously, this seems to fall in line with what Hugh Jackman said, telling Vulture, “This is, hopefully for me, going to be out of the box. It’s going to be the best one, I hope… I feel this is going to be very different.”
