Oscar Posters: ‘127 Hours,’ ‘The King’s Speech,’ ‘The Illusionist,’ ‘Somewhere’ and ‘Morning Glory’

This is obviously an assumptive post considering none of these films have won Oscars or even been nominated for one yet, but several new posters for films I have listed as Oscar contenders have arrived online in the past few days and so I figured I’d do one big bulk update with a few comments here and there.

Let’s get to it.

First is the final poster for Fox Searchlight’s 127 Hours, which I am currently scheduled to see again tomorrow for the third time prior to sitting down with director Danny Boyle here in Seattle. Have any questions for him? Let me know what they are in the comments…

Next is the poster for The King’s Speech, which rightly is getting skewered at every corner on the Internet. It is a terrible poster featuring four raised eyebrows and a dumbfounded King. Whoever approved this for release may need a good talking to.

Next is one of the animated contenders I discussed earlier today, the Sony Classics release The Illusionist. I can’t say I am particularly fond of it since there is far more gorgeous imagery to be on display from the film rather than just another shot of the film’s lead character in the ever-so-recognizeable Tati pose. Oh well, the film is still a quality one and one I think deserves more than one viewing to fully appreciate… I know I plan on seeing it again.

Here we have the poster for Morning Glory, which is receiving some good buzz, particularly for Harrison Ford who may have a shot at a Supporting Actor nomination should the buzz turn into something more of a rumble. The film hits theaters on November 10 and I am seeing it next Monday, November 8. Personally, I don’t really like that kind of scheduling as tight review windows typically mean the film isn’t very good, but I guess we’ll see.

Finally, the least “new” poster of the bunch, the French poster for Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere, which is pretty much a tighter shot of the domestic poster, but it’s new so here you have it.
