Tony Gilroy Hired to Direct ‘Bourne Legacy’

Talk of a fourth installment in the Jason Bourne franchise has been going on since about The Bourne Legacy, the fourth film in the action franchise.

At the time Gilroy was not immediately considered a directorial candidate though the thought wasn’t entirely ruled out. On top of writing the fourth film, Gilroy was also hired to write a set of franchise guidelines dubbed the “Bourne Bible,” which should be thought of as something keeping the storyline intact should other writers come aboard and the franchise continue beyond four films.

Well, now it appears Gilroy is going to get even more involved with the franchise as the Duplicity and Michael Clayton writer director has been hired to helm Bourne Legacy, stepping in where director Paul Greengrass left off after helming the last two chapters in the franchise. However, Matt Damon’s involvement isn’t yet assured as he has said previously he’ll only return if Greengrass is helming. Well, that won’t be happening so now what?

Outside of telling us what we already know, Mike Fleming’s Deadline article adds nothing new to the equation. For now this is all we have as story details haven’t even been revealed, but I suspect if you keep an eye on producer Frank Marshall’s Twitter feed additional information is sure to surface at some point.
