Is Megan Fox considered the new Hollywood hottie or where exactly does that title fall? I know one thing, Fox gains her attention based on her looks as neither Transformers or How to Lose Friends and Alienate People earned her any kind of acting points. Still to come she has the Diablo Cody penned horror/comedy Jennifer’s Body and she has lined up a pair of comic adaptations with Jonah Hex and Fathom, but I’m not seeing a lot on her plate that doesn’t require a merely pretty face. No knock on her, use what you got, but I can’t help but wonder if she’s got anymore to bring to the table.
Her latest project announcement comes from Risky Biz Blog where Steven Zeitchik tells us Fox will star in The Crossing, a border thriller for Screen Gems with a script written by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi. In the film a couple returning from a Mexican vacation are carjacked and the husband kidnapped. The wife (Fox) must smuggle heroin across the border in order to spring him. No director is attached and based on that generic plotline I don’t expect Martin Scorsese or Ridley Scott to rush to the front of the line.
Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper did a little bit of what studio heads need to do in saying Fox is ideal for the role of a woman who must be both victim and hero. The part “requires a vulnerability to make you care about her but a kind of strength to make you believe she can pull off the things she needs to, and Megan has both a vulnerability about her and an unbelievable strength.” What exactly is he basing this on? I’m guessing it’s based on the acting shown in the clip included in this post and someone told him Fox’s character was saving starving children by simply proving she could get to the other side of the pool without bumping into anyone.
Fox will next be showing off her vulnerability and strength in what is sure to be an Oscar-worthy performance in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on June 24.
