Roach’s Dinner for Schmucks Nearing Start Gate

Jay Roach’s long-gestating comedy Dinner for Schmucks is nearing the start gate, says Variety.

Spyglass Entertainment will partner with Paramount to greenlight the film, starring Steve Carell and Paul Rudd, and finance the majority of its budget.

Carell and Rudd are clearing their schedules to begin shooting the film in October. And Roach is breathing a sigh of relief as the remake of French comedy Le Diner des cons is getting off the ground after a number of setbacks.

Sacha Baron Cohen was originally aboard to star in the movie based on the 1998 film written and directed by Francis Veber.
