The Casting Couch: October 3, 2006

Shooting of The Bourne Ultimatum is underway, and after seeing The Departed last night I can only assume Mr. Matt Damon hit the weights a bit because he wasn’t as cut up as he was for Supremacy. Nevertheless, after having head baddie cast yesterday in David Strathairn we learn today that the guy whose strings he may be pulling will be played by Gael Garcia Bernal as an offer is out to the actor according to The Hollywood Reporter. Shooting is taking place in a myriad of places as it begins in Tangier and will move to Madrid, Paris, New York, London and Riga, the capital of Latvia. The story centers on assassin Bourne uncovering mysteries of his past, which puts him in the cross-hairs of a superkiller. [The Hollywood Reporter]

A little scoop comes by way of a Jew (seriously), the NKOTB JewReview.net bring us news that Jeffrey Wright has apparently earned himself the role as lead baddie in the horribly titled fourth film in the Die Hard franchise, Live Free or Die Hard. They don’t know anymore than that, but I am sure we will learn more soon as the trades take responsibility for the news. [JewReview]

Finally we learn that Terrence Howard and director Craig Brewer are getting ready to follow-up their success with Hustle & Flow with a biopic of singer Charley Pride for Paramount Pictures. Howard is set to test his pipes as he will sing the country icon’s songs and play guitar in the drama. Born to sharecroppers in Mississippi, Pride dreamed of playing professional baseball. He played in the Negro Leagues before joining the Army. After being discharged, he moved to Montana where he worked in construction and continued to play minor league ball. After moving to Nashville, he became a country sensation; between 1966 and 1984, 51 of his 54 singles cracked the country top 10. Although his achievements occurred during the civil rights movement, black America did not celebrate him and Pride struggled with the knowledge that many of his fans were white and racist. [Variety]
