D23 Interviews: J.J. Abrams and the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Cast

J.J. Abrams and the Star Wars: The Force Awakens cast

At Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, a group of 7,500 lucky fans got to see the Star Wars: The Force Awakens cast and director J.J. Abrams take the stage to celebrate the seventh film in the iconic sci-fi series. They learned about two new Star Wars theme parks and that Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) will be directing Episode IX. They even got a peek at the new Drew Struzan poster. Though no new footage from the film was shown, fans screamed their heads off for what is arguably one of the most-anticipated films of the year.

ComingSoon.net was backstage, where we got to chat with Abrams, John Boyega (Finn), Daisy Ridley (Rey), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), and Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) about the film. Though they couldn’t tell us much, Abrams talked about how the information is getting out to the fans. Nyong’O told us how much she geeked out when learning about her “Star Wars” role and when she saw her character design. Isaac talked about the fans and what it’s like to be in front of so many of them and Ridley talked about whether or not all the excitement and anticipation affected her acting process. Boyega talked about who has come the closest to guessing the history of his character and who he really is.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will take place 30 years after the end of Return of the Jedi and brings back original stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels and Harrison Ford. The movie hits theaters on December 18.
