D23 Interviews: The Good Dinosaur Filmmakers

The Good Dinosaur director Peter Sohn and producer Denise Ream

The animation presentation at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California was off to a roaring start on Friday. Director Peter Sohn and producer Denise Ream presented some new footage from The Good Dinosaur to the crowd, including footage of the three T-Rexes in action, voiced by AJ Buckley, Anna Paquin and Sam Elliott. The upcoming Disney/Pixar film is the story of Arlo, a young Apatosaurus and the runt of the litter, voiced by Raymond Ochoa, who falls into a river and gets carried off to a new adventure. Along the way, he meets up with a little cave boy who he names Spot. The film asks what would have happened if the meteor that killed off the dinosaurs never hit the Earth?

ComingSoon.net got a chance to chat with Sohn and Ream backstage at the D23 Expo and learned a bit more about the film. Will Spot speak? What was the inspiration for Sohn to do this story? Why an Apataurus? We also learn how much of a character the river is in the film.

The Good Dinosaur has been through a number of reshoots and restructuring. There have even been some cast changes. The film was originally supposed to come out in 2014. Now we’re going to see it on the big screen on November 25, 2015. The cast also includes Jeffrey Wright as Poppa, Frances McDormand as Momma, Steve Zahn as Thunderclap, Marcus Scribner as Buck and Jack Bright as Spot, though we don’t know how much we’ll hear of him. They hinted at this being a big plot point.

Check out what they had to say below and stay tuned to ComingSoon.net’s D23 Expo Hub for more news and information from the event.
