A Legend Overseas, Too

Will Smith’s I Am Legend ruled the foreign box office for a second weekend, grossing $46.1 million from 25 markets, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The Francis Lawrence-directed sci-fi actioner opened at No. 1 in the U.K. with about $21.8 million, and has earned $117 million internationally. It is expected to pass the $200 million mark in North America on Monday.

New Line’s The Golden Compass added $34 million from 54 markets, good for an overseas total of $187 million. The North American total for the family fantasy is just $56 million.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets was No. 3 with $21 million from 25 markets, lifting its overseas total to $59.8 million. In North America, where it has been No. 1 for two weekends, the total is $124 million.

Enchanted followed with $20.6 million from 43 markets for an international total of $110.7 million. The U.K. has contributed $26.4 million after four weekends.

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem opened at No. 5 with $15.9 million from 20 markets. Top bows included Germany ($4.8 million), Australia ($2.8 million) and Japan ($2.4 million).
